It’s only fair that I share my failures too. The wool came out only faintly pinkish gray, which is fine, but not what I wanted. Based on the difference between my first vat and this one (which is the remaining liquid from #1 plus some extra avocado pits), I think I need lots more pits and possibly some skins. Fortunately nothing is wasted and I can keep dyeing this wool until I succeed. 🙌🐑🧶🥑 #compostcolors

Getting a little experiment started tonight. Hoping to get some uneven dyeing on this wool braid with a gradual immersion and overnight steep in the dyepot. 🐑🥑

Preparing my “rusty objects solution” for use as a color modifier in dyeing. Making this is an alternative to buying powdered iron. Recipe from Rebecca Burgess’s book on natural dyes, “Harvesting Color”. And yes, I did wear gloves when folding up that chain to fit it into the jar. ... no wait, I thought to myself, “I should be wearing gloves” just as I pinched my finger in it. If I get tetanus I guess you won’t see any more posts for a while.
